Systems Administrator
At Avanti Finance Group, our Systems Administrators do more than keep the lights on. They actively strengthen our environment, question what could be better, and then get on with fixing it.
We are a privately owned non bank lender operating across New Zealand and Australia, with a strong emphasis on innovation, security and doing what is right. You will be part of a collaborative IT function and report into the Service Desk Team Lead, working closely with senior technical specialists across infrastructure, security and cloud.
This role has evolved. Security is central to how we operate, and we are looking for a Systems Administrator who is motivated by ownership, improvement and accountability.
What this role is really about
You will be our second Systems Administrator, partnering closely with the wider team while taking real responsibility across infrastructure, security operations and escalations. This is not a passive role. We want someone who sees issues, raises them, prioritises with the team and then delivers.
Key responsibilities include
- Supporting and maintaining network and infrastructure operations alongside partners
- Taking ownership of service desk escalations and investigating complex issues
- Supporting cloud and Azure initiatives alongside our Cloud Engineer
- Contributing to monthly security activities including anti phishing campaigns, password reviews and responding to alerts
- Writing clear documentation and user guides, including work tied to emerging AI focused projects
- Supporting and continuously improving security posture across systems and processes
- Providing backup support to the helpdesk when required
- Working with internal stakeholders and external vendors to resolve issues quickly and effectively
Technology exposure
- Firewalls including Fortinet (hands on experience is an advantage, not essential)
- Azure and cloud based services
- IT service management tools using ITIL principles
- Security monitoring and incident response processes
What we are looking for
This role will suit someone who is confident, articulate and naturally proactive.
You will bring:
- Proven experience in systems administration across infrastructure and support environments
- A strong security mindset in everything you do
- Confidence to challenge, suggest improvements and follow ideas through
- Clear communication skills and the ability to work calmly under pressure
- Experience working with vendors and external partners
- A customer focused approach, even when dealing with complex technical issues
Personality matters here. You will be decisive, a self starter and comfortable working closely with senior technical leaders. Clear verbal communication is essential.
On call and availability
This role participates in an after hours support rota:
- One week per month
- Monday to Friday 7pm to 9pm
- Weekends and public holidays 9am to 5pm
- Remunerated generously on top of base salary
