Specialist Property Lender

Avanti Finance is growing – fast

We’re on a mission to become the best specialist lending company in New Zealand and Australia, and we’re looking for ambitious, driven people to help get us there.

We’ve got bold goals and a clear vision for the future. That means exciting opportunities for those ready to champion new ideas, challenge the status quo, and grow alongside us.

If you’re hungry to make an impact, thrive in a fast-paced environment, and love turning ideas into action – you’ll feel right at home here.

The role

Reporting to the Property Lending Manager, you’ll play a critical role in assessing and approving property loans within your delegated lending authority (DLA) and referring those outside your DLA for authorisation. You’ll ensure Avanti’s lending standards are upheld, turnaround times are met, and customers receive outstanding service every time.

What you’ll do

  • Assess property loan applications with a practical and balanced approach, ensuring compliance with Avanti’s lending policies.
  • Approve loans within your delegated lending authority and escalate those outside your limits for authorisation.
  • Maintain and grow referral networks with brokers, advisers, and key stakeholders to drive business opportunities.
  • Provide clear and accurate instructions for loan documentation and settlement processes.
  • Achieve weekly and monthly lending targets while maintaining service excellence.
  • Complete all lending decisions and administrative tasks within agreed timeframes.
  • Apply a strong risk and compliance lens to every decision, ensuring adherence to CCCFA and other regulatory requirements.
  • Uphold Avanti’s standards by following the three lines of defence model for risk management.

What you’ll bring

  • Proven experience as a property lender or credit assessor within a finance company, non‑bank lender, or banking environment.
  • Strong understanding of property lending products, structures, and policy guidelines.
  • In‑depth knowledge of specialist lending and complex loan scenarios.
  • Excellent understanding of relevant legislation, including CCCFA, and awareness of market trends.
  • Ability to exercise sound judgement and make lending decisions confidently within delegated authority.
  • Strong relationship‑building skills with brokers, advisers, and external partners.
  • High level of numerical competency and analytical ability to assess risk and affordability.
  • Exceptional attention to detail and accuracy in documentation and compliance.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities, work autonomously, and adapt to change.
  • Professional communication skills - both written and verbal - with the ability to handle challenging conversations effectively.
  • A proactive, self‑motivated approach and commitment to ongoing personal development.
