Lead Automation Test Engineer

Avanti Finance is growing – fast

We’re on a mission to become the best specialist lending company in New Zealand and Australia, and we’re looking for ambitious, driven people to help get us there.

We’ve got bold goals and a clear vision for the future. That means exciting opportunities for those ready to champion new ideas, challenge the status quo, and grow alongside us.

If you’re hungry to make an impact, thrive in a fast-paced environment, and love turning ideas into action – you’ll feel right at home here.

The role

As our Lead Automation Test Engineer, you’ll take ownership of automation testing across Avanti’s technology platforms. You’ll design and evolve automation frameworks, ensure meaningful test coverage across APIs, integrations, and web applications, and help teams identify quality risks early in the delivery lifecycle.

You’ll balance technical leadership with hands‑on delivery - mentoring others, setting standards, and partnering closely with teams to ensure quality is built in from design through to production. There’s also opportunity to explore and recommend AI‑assisted testing approaches where they add real value.

What you’ll do

  • Lead and shape the automation testing approach across platforms
  • Design, build, and maintain scalable automation frameworks and test suites
  • Develop automated tests for APIs, web applications, and system integrations
  • Embed automated testing into CI/CD pipelines to support continuous delivery
  • Partner with developers and product teams to ensure solutions are testable and robust
  • Identify quality risks early and provide clear guidance on mitigation
  • Support regression testing and release readiness
  • Define and uplift testing standards, practices, and tooling
  • Mentor and support other test engineers
  • Recommend and utilise AI in testing where appropriate

What we’re looking for

  • Significant experience in test automation and software testing
  • Strong hands‑on experience with automation tools and frameworks
  • Solid programming or scripting skills (C#, JavaScript, or similar)
  • Experience integrating automated testing into CI/CD pipelines
  • Strong understanding of Agile delivery environments
  • Confidence providing technical leadership and guidance
  • Excellent problem‑solving and communication skills
  • Ability to work collaboratively across technical and non‑technical teams

If you don’t meet every requirement above but believe you’d be a great fit and are passionate about building high‑quality software, we’d still love to hear from you.
