Head of Treasury

Avanti Finance is growing – fast

We’re on a mission to become the best specialist lending company in New Zealand and Australia, and we’re looking for ambitious, driven people to help get us there.

We’ve got bold goals and a clear vision for the future. That means exciting opportunities for those ready to champion new ideas, challenge the status quo, and grow alongside us.

If you’re hungry to make an impact, thrive in a fast-paced environment, and love turning ideas into action – you’ll feel right at home here.

At Avanti Finance, we’re on a mission to become the best specialist lending company in New Zealand and Australia.

We’ve built our success by challenging convention, backing customers others may overlook, and creating innovative funding solutions that support long-term sustainable growth. As we continue to grow and evolve, Treasury plays a critical role in enabling that success.

We’re looking for an experienced and commercially minded Head of Treasury to lead Treasury strategy, Treasury Operations, liquidity management and financial risk management across the Avanti Group.

This is a rare opportunity to influence some of the most important financial decisions in our business. Working directly with the Group Chief Financial Officer and alongside the Head of Funding, you’ll help shape decisions that impact growth, funding capacity, liquidity resilience, pricing, risk management and balance sheet performance across New Zealand and Australia.

If you’re looking for a role where you can combine strategic leadership with genuine influence, while helping build the future capability of a growing organisation, we’d love to hear from you.

The Opportunity

Treasury is a strategic enabler of growth at Avanti.

As Head of Treasury, you’ll sit at the centre of decisions that determine how we fund our future, manage financial risk and optimise our balance sheet. You’ll work closely with Executive leaders, ALCO and the Board, providing commercially grounded Treasury insights that support sustainable growth and long-term value creation.

This is far more than a traditional Treasury leadership role.

You’ll have the opportunity to influence strategy at the highest levels of the organisation, shape Treasury capability, enhance systems and reporting, strengthen governance frameworks, and drive continuous improvement across the function. You’ll also help ensure Treasury remains agile, scalable and ready to support Avanti’s next phase of growth.

Working within an integrated Treasury function alongside the Head of Funding, you’ll help ensure liquidity management, funding activity, Treasury risk management and balance sheet strategy operate as a coordinated framework that supports both customer outcomes and business performance.

Why This Opportunity Stands Out

  • Influence Executive, ALCO and Board-level decision making
  • Partner directly with the CFO and work closely with the Head of Funding
  • Lead a broad Treasury mandate spanning strategy, operations, liquidity and financial risk
  • Play a key role in supporting growth across New Zealand and Australia
  • Help shape the future capability, systems and structure of the Treasury function
  • Work in a business that values curiosity, innovation and continuous improvement
  • Join a growing organisation where your contribution will have visible impact across the Group

What You’ll Do

You’ll lead and evolve Treasury across the Group, ensuring Avanti has the liquidity, governance, risk frameworks and operational capability required to support sustainable growth.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Developing and executing Treasury strategy aligned with Group objectives
  • Providing Treasury expertise and strategic advice to Executive leaders, ALCO and the Board
  • Leading liquidity management, cash forecasting and Treasury Operations
  • Managing liquidity, interest rate and foreign exchange risk within approved frameworks
  • Overseeing Treasury governance, controls, policies and reporting obligations
  • Partnering with business leaders to translate Treasury insights into commercial decision-making
  • Supporting balance sheet optimisation and funding strategy initiatives
  • Leading stress testing, scenario modelling and financial risk analysis
  • Driving continuous improvement across Treasury systems, automation, reporting and operational processes
  • Building and leading a high-performing Treasury team focused on accountability, collaboration and continuous improvement

What You’ll Bring

You’re likely already operating in a senior Treasury leadership role and are looking for an opportunity where you can expand your influence, contribute strategically and help shape the future direction of an organisation.

You’ll combine technical Treasury expertise with strong commercial acumen and the ability to build trusted relationships with stakeholders at every level of the business.

You’ll also bring:

  • Significant Treasury leadership experience within banking, finance or financial services
  • Deep expertise across Treasury Operations, liquidity management, balance sheet management and financial risk management
  • Strong understanding of Treasury governance, risk management and regulatory frameworks
  • Experience supporting Executive Leadership Teams, ALCO and Board reporting
  • Strong analytical, strategic and problem-solving capability
  • Proven people leadership experience and the ability to develop high-performing teams
  • Exceptional stakeholder management and communication skills
  • The ability to influence strategic decision making through clear, commercially grounded advice

Experience with funding programmes, securitisation structures or wholesale funding environments will be highly regarded.
