Collections Officer

Avanti Finance is growing – fast

We’re on a mission to become the best specialist lending company in New Zealand and Australia, and we’re looking for ambitious, driven people to help get us there.

We’ve got bold goals and a clear vision for the future. That means exciting opportunities for those ready to champion new ideas, challenge the status quo, and grow alongside us.

If you’re hungry to make an impact, thrive in a fast-paced environment, and love turning ideas into action – you’ll feel right at home here.

At the heart of this role is connection - you'll be the trusted voice guiding customers back on track while building relationships that actually last. This isn't your typical collections gig. You won't be reading scripts or chasing numbers. You'll be problem-solving, negotiating, and finding creative solutions that work for both the customer and the business.

Why this role hits different:
Reporting to the Head of Customer Interactions, you'll use your communication skills, emotional intelligence, and commercial savvy to deliver real impact - one conversation at a time. You'll be the person customers are relieved to speak with, not the call they're dreading.

What you'll be doing:

  • Handle inbound and outbound calls with professionalism, empathy, and genuine energy
  • Build trust-based relationships that leave customers feeling heard, supported, and understood
  • Get to the heart of financial hardship - dig into the real story behind the missed payment
  • Negotiate tailored payment solutions that are realistic, sustainable, and fair
  • Monitor and adjust plans as life happens, keeping customers on track without losing sight of business outcomes
  • Document every detail like it matters (because it does) - accurate records, clear notes, seamless handovers
  • Collaborate with internal teams to share insights and spot patterns that drive better outcomes
  • Walk the tightrope between firmness and compassion - encouraging timely payment while respecting individual circumstances

Who you are:

  • Experienced in debt collection within the Australian market - you know the landscape and the regulations
  • A natural communicator who can connect with anyone and turn tough conversations into productive ones
  • Skilled negotiator who finds the win-win, even when it's not obvious
  • Detail-oriented and organised - you don't drop balls or miss follow-ups
  • Comfortable with numbers, systems, and CRM tools (you don't shy away from tech)
  • Self-starter with initiative, but you know when to loop in the team
  • Positive, resilient, and genuinely motivated to help people get back on their fee

What's in it for me?

Within the Avanti Finance Group, you can look forward to flexible and hybrid working as we offer up to two days working from home following your initial training period. We give back to our communities through our support of Duffy Books, and by offering an Annual Volunteer Day for you to use for a purpose that's close to your heart. We believe in celebrating diversity, and we also celebrate talent and development by working with you through an established capability framework that puts you in the driving seat of your development while achieving business goals. You won't find a gender pay gap here, as we have great remuneration packages but as we all know there's more to an awesome job than the money. If you are happy and fulfilling your potential, while feeling supported, valued and empowered, then that’s a win for us! Fresh fruit, Healthy Food Guide Memberships, and increased Kiwisaver match is there for you to feel good from the inside out.
